Bullseye: Week 1 – Aiming to follow Jesus

Spiritual practices are those activities you do in your day-to-day life to help you draw closer to God.

What spiritual practices have you followed in the past?  What spiritual practices do you follow now? What works for you? What doesn’t?

I want to invite you to read this passage: Romans 12:1-2

Your task: Take your everyday, ordinary life – your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life – and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for Him. Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what He wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you – always dragging you down to its level of immaturity – God brings the best out of you and develops well-formed maturity in you.

How can spiritual practices help you bring your life before God and allow you to open up your life to what you read in this passage?

Read these four brief passages about the example Jesus sets:

Luke 4:16-19; Luke 5:16; Matthew 15:35-37

What can you learn about prayer from what you see Jesus doing?

Now, read Psalm 42:

What are you thirsting for?  How do you experience that thirst your life?

What are the barriers or challenges, for you, to practicing a spiritual life?

See you Sunday!
